Go To These Places!

Why do I keep doing this to myself, and by extension, to you guys?!

So, as you are probably already aware, I try to post my 50 Shades posts on Monday or Tuesday. Because it starts the week off right. But stuff keeps derailing me, like yesterday's combination snow day/neck injury-a-thon that laid me flat on the couch with screaming children swarming around me. I didn't get the recap finished, hell, I didn't even get the chapter annotated all the way. I thought, "No big, I'll just post it on Wednesday."

Well, shit, Jenny. Do you even know what Wednesday is? That's right. Wednesday is the 30th, aka, the day chapter 2 of The Boss comes out. If I posted a recap on the same day, the posts would be in direct competition with each other, and I happen to know that the recaps? Are big time hair pullers.

Instead, I'm posting chapter two of The Boss a day early, and you'll get your recap tomorrow. If you're not reading The Boss, then you have no one to blame but yourself for your disappointment at this announcement.

You can read chapter two here, and chapter one as well, if you're not caught up. And the recap will be out tomorrow, barring anymore bulging discs or bad weather that traps me with my children.

  1. I just read both chapters of The Boss like an addict.

    1. Oh, God... I thought weekly... I'm going to die in angst.

  2. The problem is the public promise. If you just promise to YOURSELF, secretly, that you'll get the recaps out on Monday or Tuesday, you won't jinx yourself. I find the more secret I keep my deadlines, the more able I am to meet them. It makes no sense, but it works.

Also, we understand. Please don't interrobang yourself to death. It's all good.

    1. Yeah, that and I need to just buckle the fuck down and do my work. That's another key component.

  3. "Man, had my daddy issues been that bad?" I literally laughed out loud :D

This story is great. A likeable protagonist, an interesting plot, and steamy sex scenes. You're absolutely crazy to be just giving us this for free. :D

    1. Donations of M&Ms and Kit-Kats can be made directly into my mouth, if you feel like you want to tip me. ;)

    2. Sadly I think you may be a *bit* too far away, otherwise I totally would :D The trade would be more than fair. I'll just have to settle for buying some of your books as a birthday present to myself, instead.

Also, I really like that you sidestepped the whole "models are skinny because they have eating disorders" trope, and I REALLY like that Sophie had a bit of personal growth related to this issue. I've had people give me that "are you sure you're eating enough?" look, and it sucks. Nice to have a character realize the problem with doing that.

    3. Since I can't send M&Ms, I'm TOTALLY willing to buy it at the end (maybe self-published?) so I can sit down and have a very satisfying read-through all in one sitting :)

This every 2 weeks thing is both awesome and totally frustrating. I need to know what happens next NOW! But it's also something fun to look forward to. I'm all kinds of conflicted.

  4. I tweeted about this, but I should reiterate. I checked my email at a party on Friday (because who doesn't do that?), saw that I had chapter 2, and promptly sat myself in the living room alone to read it. Everyone kept coming in and asking if I was ok and I was like, "SHUT UP, I'm reading!" and now they think I'm weird but no big. WORTH IT.

  5. Hetero is just not my cup of tea so I try to read it but I always find myself going ick. Give a heads up if there is a chapter with some same-sex action. Especially if it's man on man. Now THAT is my cup of tea.

    1. I don't have any M/M planned for The Boss, but I did write (as Abigail Barnette) some M/M/M light D/s with tiger shifters called Striped, and a M/M baseball book called Double Header (because I have a very juvenile sense of humor). I'm hoping to have a M/M steampunk one out this year, as well. :D

    2. Oooh Steampunk, be still my heart.

  6. SCREW the recaps! I love them because your style is just awesome, but I'd rather spend time with Sophie and Neil than with Chedward and the skinny idiot. Thank you!

  7. I have to say after thinking about it for a little while it will be nicer this way. When tomorrow I want to beat my head against the wall I just think, "Well at least I read The Boss, aaaah The Boss." I think I'm a little scared to discover how deep the Chedward Anabella psychological fuckery really goes. I'll be spending today bracing for impact and finding a life jacket.

  8. You take your sweet time. We all appreciate the martyrdom you put yourself through to save us having to reach into our skulls and drag our brains out. Now off to indulge myelf in the second chapter of The Boss!

  9. Am absolutely in love with "The Boss." We're only two chapters in, and I'm desperate for more. Loved the relationship you're developing between Sophie and Holli; it's so wonderful to see two women who are genuine friends, not competing with one another for a man's attention or anything silly. Sophie becomes more likeable and relatable by the chapter, with me totally rooting for her to either a) call out Neil, b) have mad, crazy hot sex with him on his desk or c) both. I'm leaning towards "c."

  10. Honey child, you are working for FREE so none of your adoring public can say boo about when you post. Take care of your kiddos and your metal health. We'll wait! <3

  11. Aaaaaahhh, my wish was granted! We see more of Holli and Holli continues to be awesome~.

Seriously, she's all "I'll get some weed and some chow and you put on some feetie pajamas and let's talk all night". She is just too clillax. Much as I love Sophie and Neil, seems like that's going to be a valuable asset.

I am still just...baffling at all the chances Neil has passed up to be an asshole. And that's really sad. How many creepy moments was Christian up to by Chapter 2? Wasn't Ana already afraid of him by now? And I just had a moment where I paused and realized, holy crap, Sophie's...kind of slowly warming up to Neil again. And not afraid of him. And they actually had their fight in private!

    It was *awesome*.

    And sexy.

  12. I love you so much. I don't care if you fuck your schedule sideways as long as we still get chapters of The Boss every now and then. I have to know what happens now. Your writing is appealing to every single part of my brain, including the one that decides what's good based on "just because".

  13. I read the two Boss chapters and I loved them! I wish I had waited longer so that I could read the whole story all at once!

  14. YESS! I've been checking here for recaps simply because I knew that The Boss wasn't scheduled to be out until tomorrow. THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER! :D

  15. SO much better than another recap.

  16. How you got snow? It's 64 degrees in Columbus OH. Since yesterday. We're not that far away from MI! I think you're making that up.

    1. We had snow until two days ago. We had a snow/ice mixture precipitation that froze everything up on the last night of cold weather. Don't forget, we have that LOVELY lake effect.

    2. Yeah....from Cleveland. I've been repressing those memories. Just not paying attention to the weather everywhere in the world. We got very little of that last snow.

  17. Do you sleep Jen? It seems you get like 10 books published in a year, you're giving us 2 chapters of the Boss a month, recaps, you have kids, a husband, chores and cooking probably, extended family and friends and ... My god! How do you do it??
