For Christmas this year, he'll be getting a mini Portal Gun, a Potatos "science" kit, and a mini battery operated turret, all from thinkgeek.com. But I wanted to give both the kids a handmade doll they could treasure for ever and ever. These two ideas fused and merged, and now I present to you Chell, heroine of Portal:
Sorry the picture is sideways. No, I'm not. I still have a weighted companion cube storage box I need to paint today. YOLO.
Check out her Aperture Science approved knee replacements, made out of paint and wire:
I would never put that on a doll for an older kid, but since this is for a ten-year-old who will more keep it than play with it, I think we're safe.
Now I'm off to finish sewing a similar doll and a mermaid tail to go on it. Tune into twitter tonight, 8:30pm EST, to tweet at us while D-Rock and I are filming our end of the world/year end Roadhouse episode. Hit us up with the hashtag #YOAO. Because You Only Apocalypse Once.
Neato. My 13 yr old autistic is into Kaiju (Japanese movie monsters like Godzilla) and movies. I got him these for the Christmas Tree:

And a copy of Sony Movie Studio plus a green screen. Should be an interesting time.
That's awesome! I love the knee replacements.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! My four-year-old is getting a plush Portal turret (with sound effects!) which I expect will get played with pretty much constantly.
ReplyDeleteI in awe. I can't make things, but I love looking at pictures from people who can :) (I did crochet a dalek once, but I got told it looked more like a very ill penguin)
ReplyDeleteThats awesome, I got my kids, husband and best friend all presents from thinkgeek.com. Best website ever!
ReplyDeleteI take it that Pacific Rim will be a popular premiere not for its thoroughly indepth plot, but because of the guest star? (hint: go watch the trailer, it's not half bad until you realise who it is.)
ReplyDeleteDo you etsy? Puppets and dolls, your kids are gonna have an awesome Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI really like and applaud the doll for your son. Too many people get wrapped up in gender stereotyping of boys need toy guns, video games, sports or army figurines. I made both my kids dolls that looked like them a couple years ago for Christmas. In addition to the stuffing, I added a couple lavender dryer-sheets. A quick toss in the dryer before bedtime gives the kids a sweet scent to cuddle close (also, it's a long-term experiment of whether I can get my kids to mellow out when they smell lavender, kinda like Pavlov's dog).
