This week I show off my hunting beard, we talk about D-Rock's kill, plus on-location footage of our hunting grounds and answer your reader questions about hunting.
Next week, we're talking about HBO's Rome. Share your favorite episodes, characters, what you liked and didn't like, and we'll talk about it.
Rome! I need to finish watching it, but I went to Rome recently does that count? The weather was beautiful, and then I came back to England which was cold and tends to be wet. It was a little depressing. Only like eight months and then I can move back to California, aaaah palm trees and forever fall until summer rolls around again. My kind of weather.
ReplyDeleteI like how my comment led to a rant on Ted Nugent. He's an asshole. I didn't realize he claimed to be from Michigan, but that is terrible. Indiana has its moments, but at least they didn't let Mourdock in, woohoo! Now if he'll just accidentally get lost in the woods somewhere and never come back that would be fine. Also you didn't have to mention the name thing, but thank you. Your pronunciation is now flawless :). Unless someday I get married and change my name to something even more incomprehensible, or maybe I'll hyphenate. Chezem-'whatever'. Except I know I'm too lazy already to bother writing all of that out anytime I have to sign something, haha.
I just wanted to comment to say that Rome wise I absolutely ADORE Atia.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for answering my questions! It was especially interesting to hear about D-Rock's time in a slaughter house, and about the deer diseases and overpopulation. I'd never thought about that.
ReplyDeletePerhaps I have not been a fan long enough (will have to go back and read earlier posts) but Jen mentioned having an autoimmune disease in this episode. If you don't mind sharing, what do you have? I have an autoimmune disease myself (Crohn's disease) so I'm especially curious.
I haven't seen Rome or even heard about it. I think I'll have to try to catch up by next Friday. I'll post questions/comments about it if I do :)
I just wanted to make a totally random comment about accents. I'm a Canadian from Ontario, and since I'm an international English teacher right now, I've started speaking 'North American accentless news caster' English. My friends back home, on the other hand, sound just like D-Rock. I've heard them be accused of having super strong Canadian accents, but I've always argued that everyone in the general east/central boarder area of N. America sound the same, regardless of whether they're American or Canadian. Have you ever met any Canadians from Ontario? I swear that we sound just like you guys. I was also wondering if you could tell me what other Americans speak like us? I met some people from Ohio through online gaming, and oddly enough they seemed to have the same accent. Have you found the Michigan/Ontario accent anywhere else in the states?
ReplyDeleteOhioans have a variety of accents. Clevelanders (though they will deny until their faces fall off) speak with really broad vowels a la Boston, thought not as strong. Bowling Green on up to the Michigan boarder speak in a mixture of Fargo and Canada (and are all obsessed with hockey). Southern Ohioans speak with a Applachian twang. And they rest such as my humble self, who grew up on a farm sorta north central then came to Columbus (dead center of the state) have your good ole newscaster non-accent.
DeleteWe like to keep 'em guessing.
Oh, side note: in my experience moose in our region taste like the swamp algae they eat. My east coast friends tell me that their moose is much better and far less gamey though.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I haven't watched Rome yet (it's on my to watch list, probably over december), but you should watch Spartacus if you haven't yet. Not only does it have 300 style violence and awesome intrigue, but it also has tons of full frontal dick and a plethora of boobies.
Is D-Rock's snake a Ball Python?
ReplyDeleteJames Purefoy--yum.
ReplyDeleteHave to admit that Rome has been in my mind recently since Pullo has showed up in the latest season of Dexter...
ReplyDeleteLife happened so I'm kinda late in responding to this video.
ReplyDeleteJen, I love your beard.
I live in San Francisco and hunting is Not A Thing so I had no idea what to expect. Maybe something akin to Bambi's mom in terms of horribleness because: deer. I don't even know. But I was wrong! And I can say that. NOT saying I'm going to move somewhere and become a hunter, animals are my kryptonite, but I definitely view it in a different light. And I've been sitting trying to pinpoint what exactly made that so and the answer is: your attitudes. There's genuine respect for animals there and it was very telling in every question answered and comment made. Even in, well actually ESPECIALLY in, D-Rock's remarks about working in a slaughter house. (And Nugent's just a fucking dick all around. I try REALLY HARD to see and ponder both sides of things - like just now with deer hunting - but SERIOUSLY. Fuck that guy.) The idea of trophy hunting still leaves me feeling a little squicky. I read the Once and Future King way too young and the bit about the unicorn head freaked me out pretty bad. it still freaks me out pretty bad! But I appreciated the disclaimer about not leaving the carcass behind.
tl;dr and/or the point I was trying to make then didn't: D-Rock is currently my official favorite person.
This comment is so going to make her day! :D
