What it's like living in Michigan

Today I was going to blog two new xtranormal videos of my husband and I having normal husband/wife conversation, just to prove that we're both probably mentally ill. However, when I went to bed yesterday, it looked like this outside:

And when I got up this morning, it looked like this:

So I felt this was something I couldn't let slip idly past without comment.

Here's my comment: "What the shit is this? Wasn't it 83 degrees last Sunday? And we complained that the house was too hot and we all slept nekkid on top of our covers because it was unbearably warm? And now there's snow on the ground and in the trees like a goddamned Christmas wonderland? What the balls?"

There are a lot of clever jokes about Michigan and what it's like to live here, but I think for the people who don't live in the midwestern United States, well, they can't possibly know that those jokes are basically all true. There was an email forward going around for a while called "You know you're a Michigander if..." and there was a part where it says, "If you've ever had sunburn and frostbite in the same week."

That's this week, folks. That's this week.

  1. So true. At least this sort of thing gives me a perfect excuse to have a closet crammed with short sleeve t-shirts and heavy sweaters pretty much year 'round.

  2. I woke up, saw that stuff out there and decided it would be a good day to go back to sleep! Fortunately, my toddler was willing to go down for a early nap and I was able to nap with him. By the time we woke back up, the snow was melted! YAY! And the weather guy just said that it is supposed to be back in the 60s by the end of next weekend. Gotta love Michigan. I wouldn't dream about living anywhere else!

  3. LOL - I live in California, more northern than central and while we didn't have actual SNOW (We live too close to the coast) we have gone from warm spring like weather (80's) to very cold (40's) back and forth for a few months every single winter. Winter and Spring. There is no packing away the winter clothes around here, because even in the summer you'll need a few sweaters or jackets for the evenings....except for those heatwaves...then everyone is laying on their beds, nekkid, wishing for air conditioning. :) thankfully, in my area we only get a few heatwaves a year. We're pretty lucky, even with the in consistant weather.

  4. I so, so hate pulling out the gloves and hat and sweaters. It should be against the law to wear more than one sweater to stay warm.

  5. I'm from SW WA, where it's not uncommon to be drenched in a sudden downpour if you walk out the back door of the house, while the sun is shining beautifully out the front door.
