If I have learned one important lesson from this whole JLA vs. LKH blog dust up gossip fest (that still continues... Dear Author featured it in their link round up today), it's that people friggin love Cyrus.
I'm still not sure why.
Don't get me wrong, there are tons of "bad boys" that I love. I've even blogged about them before. But I don't really understand what's so appealing about Cyrus. Maybe because I've spent so much time writing him. And maybe because I had to call upon all my selfish, negative personality traits to cobble him together. Cyrus is the kind of person I would be if I had just a little bit less conscience. You know, minus the statutory rape and child murder.
But I must be crazy, because I miss the bastard. I would absolutely like to write him again. And from the messages I've gotten from some of you, I think you'd like me to write him again, as well. Unfortunately, I can't just write him, because he doesn't belong to me anymore, and the people he does belong to don't feel there would be a readership for him. So, I'm starting a grassroots thing right now.
If you love Cyrus, if you want to read about him again, leave a comment here to that effect. Have your friends who don't read my blog but like Cyrus come do it, as well. I want to see if I'm right, that there are people out there who would send my publisher some dollars for another few hundred pages of Cyrus.
I've already found out how powerful word of mouth can be when I open my mouth wide enough. Let's see if the same goes for Cyrus. Leave your comments. Honk if you love Cyrus. And if there are no honks, then I can put him to his final rest on my "to do" list.
I've been waiting to see what was in store for Cyrus next. I LOVE that creepy guy. And yes, he was creepy, even in his reformed state. Didn't keep me from obsessing over him, though.

ReplyDeleteI thought Cyrus was pretty cool in the first book, sort of a deranged Wizard Howl. I thought he was an utter sissy in the second book. I'll get to the third book some day.

I loved Cyrus ever since the first book! I believe that he is the most complex character in the whole series and you developed his character very well. Yes, he's bad but there is still so much good in him. All he wanted was for someone to love and love him in return. I found his story heartbreaking. And even though I want to wring his neck every time he does something bad, I still love his character. It's as if he touched something inside of me that made me love his whole character in the story.

I absolutely LOVE Cyrus!!! I sooo wanted them together!! He was such a different person by the end...but I knew he had it in him...yeah he has a bad past and what-not, but idk, something about him, I love it! I miss him so very much!

I heart Cyrus. As you said, not entirely sure why, but damn, do I heart Cyrus. And I'd be willing to fork over a hefty fistfull of dollars to read him again.
ReplyDeleteCyrus was a weird character for me. He was so dramatic and blatently self-serving that I absolutely loved him even though he was a rapist/murderer/sadist, etc. I'd LOVE to see what's happening with him now that his dad's out of the picture and Carrie is settled with Nathan.

You shouldn't tease me by promising another Cyrus book if its not going to happen. That's just cruel! Send this to the publisher. I and others I know would PAY LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY to read another book about Cyrus (does that help?)

ReplyDeleteA Cyrus book minus Carrie would be interesting - she really does bring out the worst in the ther characters, and rarely in a good way. besides, he sparkles just fine without any help,flaws and that amazing cynicism.

Sure he has ISSUES, but the possibility that he could really be a good guy I think deserves some looking into. Hell I loved the series so much I just want more of them anyway I can get them. I've been dying to read more of Cyrus since he was first introduced. I love that sadistic b*****d! He was amazingly written, and he's in NEED of a happy ending. Bad boy or not. I know you could read an AMAZING story featuring him. If they don't feel the same way, it's such a waste. They have to see that we NEED a ending for him. They might think we just "want" one, but honestly... we "need" one.

ReplyDeleteI am a reader/collector of both Blood Ties and recently the Light World/Dark World books. I as a series reader am upset to hear that a character introduced into a series won't get his story because someone thinks he isn't worth it. I like reading series books after I have 4 or so in a row to read. To now know that I won't have a chance to read Cyrus's story because there supposedly isn't a demand (which by the reads here there is) sorta keeps my series in a holding pattern in the deadly TBR Pile. I already feel like I'm missing something before I even start the series. They really should get over themselves and let this story be written.

Hi! I’m Italian and I’ve just finished reading the Italian translation of The Turning. And, of course, I’m here to say that I want more Cyrus! I’ve written on my blog (unfortunately in Italian) how much I loved him from his first appearance in the book and how sad I am now that he has disappeared.

I would like to read how his life was before becoming a vampire, his love story with Elsbeth, everything about him. So, please, write more about him. I will buy the book in English if it won’t be translated in Italian!
OMG!! Cyrus, Please i want more Cyrus. I mean you left him hanging in the barn on his knees crying over Carrie being dead.I mean come on you told us about every one else what happened to Cyrus? Did he get his heart before he left the barn? did he leave the barn alive? Did he check to see if the they where working on bring her back or did he just walk away. Please convince them to let you do Cyrus story please. I hope you still check this site.
You could start it as a Prologue from the barn. You could also let his true love be Carrie's and Nathan daughter that is something Cyrus would do and also have her be more busty. It's up to you if her parents are still alive or She's Ziggy and Bill ward.
You could also have him meet her in the bar and he knows who is or not but it doesn't take him long to figure it out, it's so Cyrus. I think he should almost from the being to find a way to be able to bond with her without turning her right away, Like when he meets her in the bar because he already knows or has an ideal and finds a way to put his blood into her drink and she cuts her finger and goes to wipe it off but Cyrus catches her hand and licks it off or sucks it.

I want more Cyrus! Honestly, I was glad that he just couldn't die. (Just like Vicki from Vampire Diaries) I felt betrayed every time you killed him and overjoyed when he came back! I love Cyrus so much and secretly hoped that he and Carrie would end up together. I want more Cyrus!
